I have a feeling it takes place post MGS4, because a theme of the game is a "recreated world".

And Raiden didn't have two screws and a barcode, as well as -possibly- a missing eye in 4, and his gear looks a lot more advanced plus the lightning motif. It all points to post.

Yo can this not be in the main Metal Gear canon? Can this be in the Ghost Babel universe? Or that mobile MGS game universe? I'm digging the gameplay, but the MGS series and jumped so far into the future, the charm of what once was a cute little conspiracy theory wrapped within historical and current evidents with a dash (though now growing into a spoonful) of Japanese platitudes about life, is not all but gone. I think the Metal Gear series died when 4 came out. I don't want to go into it now but it was a huge let down. The golden age of Metal Gear I think is the original trilogy. 1-3, but as it stands, I don't have the same enormously high expectations I did for the series when Snake Eater (which it fulfilled) and Guns of the Patriots (which it did not fulfill) came out. So I'm sure I'm going love this game. One thing about MGS4 is when Raiden started break dancing killing Gekkos. I was like damn... I wish I could've done that back on Arsenal Gear...

Here's how it is. At some point you all realize that killin people with guns n shit is a pretty gay experience altogether. What its all about is cleaving your enemies in two using cybernetic enhancements to perform highly kinetic and choreographed attacks that would normally not be achievable for regular humans.

It was. But so was MGS4 in terms of gameplay. I fucking loved to play that game but unlike the previous MGSs, I always skipped the cutscenes, I was even tempted to the first play through. And Peace Walker did have a better story but at this point in Kojima's career, I think he's out of ideas. The platitudes of war and peace were a little redundant before, now they hold no meaning what so ever. The original intent to make all of his American characters is no more. The dialogue is getting progressively worse. I just don't see anything new, yeah I love Peace Walker. But if someone who had played all previous Metal Gear games were so inclined to skip Peace Walker, I wouldn't say they were missing out.
