it fluctuates, there are alot of different versions of the unicorn, some come with red beams, others come with blue.

you never know, maybe in the OVA the back beam sabres are red and the arm ones are blue.

chronologically speaking the inclusion of old hardware in Unicorn is the most logical step to make. its not unoriginality, its respect for the timeline. considering that fact that Jegans were used prominently before and after the time period, it makes sense that they would be used heavily. even then they included brand spanking new mobile suit designs that, while never being show before, fit perfectly into the time period, with pre-existing predecessors and decedents. you cant just throw in a bunch of brand new mecha for no reason (just to sell model kits).

it can still hold a weapon just fine, it just has to swing the forearm around instead of the wrist.

its meant to be a last minute defensive weapon, when it stil has a weapon in its hand, but needs to block another beam sabre. kind of like the beam jitte on the GP-01.
